Between the Said and the Unsaid

Yvanka B. Raynova: Between the Said and the Unsaid. In Conversation with Paul Ricoeur, vol.1. Frankfurt am Main: Peter Lang, 2009, 160 p.

The following volume presents three interviews with Paul Ricoeur - one of the major philosophers of the 20. century - that were realized by Yvanka B. Raynova in 1993, 1996 and 2002. Beacuse Raynova's purpose is to scrutinize the complex evolution of his hermeneutic phenomenology, the main question on which are centered the two volumes is how to "think together" the difference between the issues of Ricoeur's first works and those of his later ones, concerning the problems of the self and its relation to being, Transcendence and language. Other discussed subjects are: why philosophy today? If philosophy and religion are two autonomous fields, is there a possibility of elaborating a religious philosophy within the method of hermeneutic phenomenology? What is the primary object of hermeneutics? What are the potentialities of language and its confines, respectively the limits of interpretation?

On the base of these interviews and of a comparative analysis, Raynova presents in the second volume a new interpretation of Ricoeur's "oeuvre" disclosing the main tensions between different accounts in his early and has later works.
